Filleted/Fiberglased/Epoxy-sealed Cockpit
Despite the fume-induced stupor, we managed to finish the cockpit - complete with hanging knees and bulkheads.
In fact, we were so pleased with the outcome we decided to go paddle and vest shopping in Joliet. I am now the proud owner of my very own aluminum shaft two-piece kayak paddle and extra-wonderful fully floatable kayak life vest. Mike got a vest but no paddle - he is making his paddle (he hopes). Actually we spent various hours this weekend trying to track down the elusive marine-grade plywood. I guess it is somewhat rare here in the midwest (go figure!) so we may have to order it. We are also having a hard time finding 1" half-round fir and a 1" X 1/4" mahogany slat. Anybody got some you can spare?I will take some pictures later today of the boat as it is now: upside down with copper stitching wires clipped off. Mike has sanded the entire hull down and rounded the chines and applied fillets along the chines. Today he will sand the fillets down and finish preparing the hull for the Fiberglas. If all goes well, we may be fiberglasing the hull today! Wish us luck!
